Best of India

Sophiensäle Project

I have compiled a number of photographs I consider to be the best taken during my trip to India in 2007. Most of the photographs are taken in the beautiful area of Rajasthan in North West India // one / two / three / four / five / six / seven / eight / nine

Akemi & Andrzej's Wedding

Akemi & Andrzej's Wedding

It seems a bit strange that I've never really been to a wedding before. This wedding will have been my first and it was a 'city hall' wedding performed in Edinburgh; the bride Akemi and her husband Andrzej. The ceremony was extremely brief, with a little time for photographs outside - but I set myself the task of trying to capture a few moments of the couple expressing their affection for each other. These are some picks.

Children of India

Children of India Project

A small project looking at younger people and children of the poorer parts of India. While walking around the backstreets of Agra, not that far from the tourist trail of the Taj Mahal and Agra fort were many poor families and enthusiastic young people.

My backpacking accomplice, Barry, offered to teach some English to students at a newly established school in Varanasi. I went along to the school one day to meet the students and capture their faces // view gallery

Sophiensäle [urban exploration]

Sophiensäle Project

On a trip to Vienna, Austria, I organised to meet up with a friend who was part of a network on deviantART known as 'dA's Magnum'. Severin Koller is one of my favourite and most respected contemporary street photographers and meeting him was a pleasure. Severin brought me to many places, one was the magnificent Sophiensäle theatre, which had been destroyed previously by a fire. Here is a selection of photographs taken inside the theatre - two of them went on sale at my photography exhibition in Skerries Mills, 2006 // sophiensäle piano / upstairs / curtains

Candice [model/fashion photography]

Candice - Model photography

While staying in Dublin, I was inspired to try and capture some photographs in the gritty, small streets around North Strand in the city centre. I asked a friend of mine to model for me - Candice Lavender. This project was a lot of fun to work on and gave me quite a taste of what professional model/fashion photography may be like

Some of these photographs went on sale at my photography exhibiton in Skerries Mills, 2006 // one / two / three / four / five / six / seven / eight / nine / ten

web design

HACCPSOLUTIONS.ie - new website development

HACCPSOLUTIONS

Charles Comerford, a food safety expert got in touch about a new website development. We worked together to create a site that was accessible and presented his companies services in a simple, elegant style. His previous website has confusing sections, mixed up information and no graphical division of content. My suggestions implemented pages divided by Home, Services, Clients, About and Contact, and divided the services into training certificates and other courses. The result is a clean and effective new site with distinct content layers and unambiguous navigation. // visit website

Media Computing - Future City, Future Body [microsite]

Future City, Future Body Project

Future City, Future Body - A project in university taken on the media computing module at Edinburgh Napier University. The purpose of this project was to investigate how the use of different media can impact the interpretation of information. It is also intended to enable us to learn about how different media are being blended to create novel interactive experiences, from the physical manipulation of products, to the clothes we wear to the urban landscapes in which we reside // visit microsite

Lisney - [MediaOne project development]

Lisney site design

During my time at MediaOne, Dublin, I was given various tasks to do on a major project - Lisney, the Irish property company. What started out as some CSS tweaks, continued as more and more sections were requested to be built and I took over a more primary role on CSS and design on the project. This was an extremely exciting project to work and I was extremely happy with the final results; publishing a dynamic and functional, useable, and clean website // visit website

Immark - [MediaOne project development]

Immark site design

Another project completed during my time at MediaOne. This time I was tasked with creating a number of design templates in Photoshop. These designs were based on simple wireframes and source imagery supplied by the client. After the designs were complete they were sent to the client who approved one design. This was an exciting project to work on, and even though the website is quite simple, it was my first site design that was published by a major company // visit website

Eircom - [MediaOne project development]

Mock Eircom

This project is a mock-up of a eircom.net website redesign, the purpose was to simplify the information presented. Their site previously was packing a lot of information into their main page; they're now resolved this by having their site redesigned and divided separately, for example, one for broadband and one for phone services. MediaOne also designed these sites, and while I was working for the company I did some maintenance and CSS fixes on the final sites.

Paul Redmond [business cards]

Paul Redmond business cards

I created a design for my own business/name cards. I worked on several versions of the card before reverting to this more simple design, using just one font and a simple graphic of a camera created from basic geometric shapes and a man (me!) made from a custom shape.

Joyce O' Reilly [business cards]

Joyce o' Reilly business cards

I created some clean and simple business cards for Joyce O' Reilly - A reiki practitioner. Included here is a design for her business cards as well as Gift Certificates.

Honours Project Poster

Honours Project Poster

As part of the honours project module - the creation of a dissertation, was to present your completed findings on a poster and display at a presentation along with the rest of the school of computing. This presentation gave academics a chance to read about everyones project and ask questions about it - the title, method, findings etc. I won the runner up prize for "Best poster design in the school of computing 2009".

Urban Photography & Graphic Design [combining]

Urban photography + Graphic design

I love street art and urban photography, I also love typography and designs placed on top of urban street art photographs. Here is a few example of cases where I have combined the two. Some are simple experiments, others I worked on a little more.

Breeders - Cannonball [dvd box art]

Breeders - Cannonball DVD box

This project was created in university under our digital video module. It involved the creation of a music video, complete with DVD box cover and box which contained a sleeve insert with video and actor information. The box cover displays the various characters of the video presented on the front top and bottom. I did the photography and graphics. Please note - This was not produced or endorsed by "The Breeders".

“Zygmunt Nowak-Jeziorański – Paranormal Investigator" - [visual effects storytelling]

Zygmunt Nowak-Jeziorański – Paranormal Investigator Project

Zygmunt Nowak-Jeziorański - Paranormal Investigator is a project completed for Visual Effects Storytelling at Edinburgh Napier University. It tells the tale of Draka, a mysterious woman with supernatural powers who can harness the elements and travel through time.

This is my first visual effects assignment so the effects are very basic, it was great fun learning how to use After Effects though, and my skill with animations and keyframing as well as blending effects has improved quite a bit. // view movie (pop-up)

Princess & Pet - [animation]

Princess + Pet 3D Project

This project involved the creation of a humanoid bipod creature, which was to be a princess. Creation was from start to finish and involved modeling, rigging, UV mapping and texturing. We also had to animate various characters, a ‘troll’ and ‘pet’.
